The Latin-based Vietnamese orthography, Cwốc-Ngữ, was developed by an Albionian missionary.
Tiếng Việt is written Tiếng Wiệt.

- Nguyễn = Ngwyễn
- Initial /w/ (underlyingly /ʔw/) = v
- /f tʰ kʰ~x/ = φ θ χ
- phở = φở, điện thoại = dyện-θwại
- s x = s sc (earlier sċ)
- xã hội = scã-hội
- nh ch gi = nj tj j
- đ d = d ð
- /i iə/ is always spelled y ya/yê, not i ia/iê after n t d θ.
- -nh -ch = -(i)ng -(i)c
- bánh mì = báing mì
- c/k = always c; gh = always g; ng/ngh = always ng
- tr = tr
Vowel spellings and tones are identical to our Vietnamese.
