Ernish (native name Auzinim /ɐʉʐɪnɪm/) is an Irenesian language spoken in Eastern Siberia and northern North America along with its closest relatives (the Ernic branch of Irenesian, including Whyastian).

Diachronics

From PEK to Proto-Ernic

  1. The first schwa in a word is deleted if not word-initial, after applying the rule Və -> V: -> V
  2. word-final schwa is deleted
  3. mˁ tˁ -> mw pw
  4. ç -> ś before t; þ otherwise
  5. q χ -> kw xw before e i

From PE to Ernish

  1. ə -> a after q, -> o after mw pw, i otherwise
  2. Dissimilatory delabialization: (C)wVw -> CVw

The Ernish

Religion

Originally Ernic speakers were followers of Āínkiīaánịạkàì; however, most today are irreligious. A minority follow syncretisms of Āínkiīaánịạkàì and Sfipsurtop.

Phonology

p pw t ch tr k /p pʷ t tɕ~ɕ ʈʂ k/

d z g h /ð ʐ ɢ h/

w l /w l/

m mw n nh nr ng /m mʷ n ɲ ɳ ŋ/

i e a o u /ɪ e̞ ɐ o̞ ʉ/

/o/ is [ʌ] after /w mʷ pʷ/

the voiced uvular stop is phonologically a voiced velar fricative

some accents could merge l into edh

(edh initially sounds like a labialized Danish soft d)

Grammar

VSO; similar to Indonesian or Classical Arabic grammar
