Notes

General

  1. Danterian word order is almost always SOV.
  2. Adjectives usually modify the phrase directly after them, unless they are the object of a verb.
  3. Pronouns come in the rational & non-rational genders (abbvd. R & NR), the former of which includes humans, mythical figures, and some machines, while the latter includes everything else.
  4. Certain words, particularly participles/gerunds here, act as "adnouns" which behave either like an adjective or noun depending on the context.
  5. In the gloss, "someone" & "something" are used in place of the expected "4R" & "4NR" since it's not entirely clear if the 4th person exists separately from the obviate 3rd person. In this sense, it should be thought more of like the use of "one" or "people" as pronouns in English.

Inline

  1. ^ a b The name of a German anthropologist and naturalist known for his work in colonial and post-revolutionary Danterlokhan, pronounced /eːɱʲilʲ tʲitʰħr/ (qdt) or /eːmiːl diːtɐ/ (deu).

  3. ^ a b c d The name of a stock character, pronounced /tvrʌwɞcʰ/, literally "law-turner".
  4. ^ a b c d The prefix кы- (sub-) is used on pronouns to indicate a referent introduced more recently in cases where confusion is possible.
  5. ^ a b The verb явстр usually translates more like "to be ostracized", but in this case is used euphemistically for (capital) punishment.
  6. ^ a b The name of a stock character, pronounced /ʃvuʒf/
  7. ^ a b c d When an adjective is the object of a verb, the verb conjugates as if it were only describing one referent (i.e. intransitive).
  8. ^ a b The name of the psychopomp in Danterian myth, pronounced /nħaɱ ɱˤawrfʎeːcʰ/, literally "the great owl".
