Ilda is the equivalent of Ancient Greek in my con-world of Radael.

Most of our knowledge of Ilda comes from surviving literature that was not destroyed by the Moshurian Pillage of Ilda[1], such as Zeror of Ilda's Ildaīsi Mondenikās[2], which has been invaluable in the reconstruction of the Ildan language, as well as its long-spanning history.

Origin

Ilda was formed from Proto-Yeldhic settlers who began to develop agriculture in what is now Ilda and Maranösia. However, the constant flooding of the Zád and Pêrush[3] rivers forced the Proto-Yeldhic farmers to organise themselves to manage the excessive flooding, eventually leading to the formation of a central bureaucracy and state[4] as early as ~7000 UH.

What occured next, in around 4000 UH, was what Zeror calls the Golden Age of Ilda. All new kinds of food, literature, statues, philosophy, culture, pottery and art were produced around this time, although Zeror did not work in this time. It was around this time that the Ildans began to colonise Maranösia, develop a writing system and build several formidable empires and capitals across the Paleoyeldhic strip and beyond. The formidable natures of the Zád and Pêrush rivers had been tamed, giving rise to exceptional amounts of food being produced for the ever-growing population of cities like Utelida, Māntoredickita and Poētimida. Artists, philosophers, potters, cooks, soldiers, playwrights, historians and writers roamed the streets of the capital, Ilīdador, marveling at all they could see.

This golden age lasted for centuries, nay, millenia even. Numerous empires rose and fell in Ilda, but the glory of Ilda stayed relatively constant for thousands of years. However, in 800 UH, the Zád and Pêrush rivers flooded. Normally, the two rivers would not flood together, but this time, the rivers crashed through their defences in horrifyingly perfect tandem. Not only could the defences not handle the sheer volume of water, but the complacent kings had neglected flood defences, thinking that the Golden Age would go on for eons more.

The effects were catastrophic. The famous Plains of Plenty(Abōbikās Pikitās) were entirely flooded, ruining food supply in Ilda. The few high-lying areas of the Plain were picked raw by crows.
