From Middle Skundavisk hōued, from Old Skundavisk hōuod, hōbod, from Halmisk ᚻᛟᚢᛒᛟᛞ (houbod), ᚻᛟᚢᛒᛟᛞᛖ (houbode), from Proto-Germanic *haubudą.
