Eistali is a language isolated spoken in the Eistal Archipelago, approximately 1512 kilometers North-northwestern off Galicia, Spain. It was first codified in 912 A.D., by Arabic linguists. Eistali has around 14.2 million native speakers and another 16.000 speakers spread around the world, but principally in the United States and Brazil. | |||
Eistali was written with a rune-like script until ~1600s, when people changed the native script to the Latin alphabet for more convenience and to help the commerce. These runes evolved from an even older script that was a similar system from the Egyptian hieroglyphs. | |||
Linguistically, Eistali is an Ergative-Absolutive language, with synthetic and fusional syntax. Its default word order is VOS. Eistali has 12 vowels and 31 consonants, with thousands of allophones and different pronunciations across its various dialects. It is currently available in some language learning platforms, such as Duolingo, Drops and Babel. A 2020 study shows that about 22,000 people have already at least done 15 days of Eistali learning on Duolingo. | |||
