| The Hlou and Æ traditions are thought to have come from a single tradition, and the divergence date is likely taken to be 1200 years ago (about fT 1000), when the Hlou and Æ migrated from Talma to Mpfa Wieb. The divergence likely came about due to relative isolation of the Wiebian land from Etatalma, as while the PHS (Proto-Hlou-Shum)-speaking Wiebians likely traded with the PHS-speaking Talmans, there was no such trading when it came to the Æ-speaking Wiebians, as there were no Proto-Rieng-Chrâtt speakers in Talma or they were likely fully absorbed.
