Magellanican is a language isolate and has no traceable genealogical relation to any other language, ancient or modern. It does however form a sprachbund with its neighbours, sharing such features as a bisyllabic root structure, primary stress on the first syllable, consonant gradation and the opposition of voiceless plosives vs voiced fricatives or approximants. The dialect described below is the standard variety promulgated by the Magellanican Technocratic Commonwealth.
