Phonology
Modern Nurian has a typologically unusual distinction between dental and alveolar stops and between many types of fricatives:
- t d = alveolar stops
- th dh = alveolar spirants (slit fricatives)
- þ đ = (unaspirated) dental stops
- þh đh = dental spirants
- s z = dental/alveolar sibilants
- ṡ ż = postalvelar sibilants
