From Classical Phrygian ɑɑ̔ʌ (ahal), ɑ̄ʌ (āl), from Proto-Semitic *ʔahl-. Cognate with Hebrew אַהֶל (ʾahel), Akkadian 𒌷 (ālum), Arabic أَهْل (ʾahl), among others.
