Tricin (English: /ˈtrɪsin/ TRIS-in or /ˈtrɪkɪn/ TRIK-in; Eevo: a Smøøh; Swutsim: Ξəp /tɬəp/; Rhythoed: Sngeaf; Clofabosin: tricin /tɾikin/ 'world') is a collaborative conworld setting originally created by User:IlL. User:Praimhín has also contributed greatly.

Some loose guidelines

  • In general, conlangs and names should avoid words that sound like
    • racial etc. slurs
    • profanities in common Earth languages
    • names of infamously destructive hurricanes (e.g. "Katrina" or "Harvey")
  • When creating a Trician character, you can give them multiple interests (like, say, mathematician and composer) but generally you should give them at most one field to be major or famous in, especially if the character is contemporary.
  • When translating texts and dialogue into English, use (an appropriate register of) Modern English – i.e. don't use unnecessary archaisms, regardless of the setting.
  • When spoken dialogue in English is needed, use a uniform choice of native English accent.
    • Or: use the appropriate Trician accent for a character and subtitle everything.

Todo

  • Explore cultural contact and conflict.
  • Explore "scattered communities with local laws" ideas for political systems
  • Need literature people in the workgroup
  • Find a domain to host a dedicated wiki on
  • Does Tricin have an equivalent to Japanese manga?
  • talman classical langs: windermere, häskä

Star system

Tricin is the second of 7 planets orbiting a G-type main sequence star, called a hond in Skellan, grian in Clofabosin, and pjeos in Tsjoen.

TODO: Redo Talman planet names

Planet names in Clofabosin:

  • spitin - terrestrial
  • tricin - terrestrial
    • Satellite: porfin
  • alatin - terrestrial
  • fricodin - super-Earth
  • sterocitin - gas giant
  • tarofudin - gas giant
  • clifarin - ice giant

The largest planet is Taroð and the smallest is Aloð.

Planetary characteristics

1 Trician year = 381.3668618 Earth days = 357.0806527870906 Trician days = 1.04410737342 Earth years

1 Trician day = 25.6323176 hours

357 days = 51 7-day weeks

Atmosphere and atmospheric pressure: Earth-like

Continents

The countries of the Bitaleta (Talma, Etalocin, and Bjeheond) area

27% of Tricin's surface is land (i.e. not covered by water).

Continents (Areas are ballpark estimates):

  • Eta-Talma (Skellan: Eþa-Talma): Spreads north to south, about 20% of the land
    • Talma (Skellan: Talma): Northern, temperate region
    • Etalocin (Skellan: Eþa): Southern, tropical region
  • Bjeheond (Skellan: Ogxóoŋ): about 10% of the land, temperate
  • Txapoalli (Skellan: Nyçís) : about 30% of the land, climate varies widely
  • Cualuav (Skellan: Cualuav): 30%, climate varies widely
  • Arctica: 10%

Other areas:

TODO: Residual and spread zones within each continent.

Calendar

The following describes the Talman calendar, which is now a global standard across Tricin.

Year 0 marks the founding of the Windermere Empire. Negative years are written with a minus sign.

Months in Clofabosin:

  • rufiporfin
  • talaporfin
  • uneporfin
  • verteporfin
  • rostaporfin
  • exeporfin
  • avidoporfin
  • temoporfin
  • padeliporfin
  • padoporfin
  • stannsoporfin
  • lemuteporfin

A seven-day week is used. The names of the days of the week in Clofabosin are:

  • domorelin
  • remorelin
  • mimorelin
  • famorelin
  • solmorelin
  • lamorelin
  • timorelin

Leap day every 12.3988275678 years

months: 30 30 30 29 30 30 30 29 30 30 30 29(30)

Leap year every 12 except when the year is divisible by 372. If the year is divisible by 130944=352*372 it's a leap year.

so the years 270, 520, 790, X40, 10E0, 1360, 1610, 1880, ... are not leap years

In Talman reckoning, history is divided into 72-year periods, known in Skellan as fyðóor.

The current Trician year is fT 1392.

Major oceans and seas

Tectonic plates

Major plates:

  • one big oceanic plate
  • Talman plate
  • Etalocian plate (Or maybe one single Eta-Talman plate)
  • Bjeheondian plate
  • two to three Txapoallian plates
  • one Cualuavian plate
  • two to four minor oceanic plates
  • one Arctican plate

Time zones

Constellations

Prehistory

  • Long period of glaciation like in our world
  • Behaviorally modern humans emerged in Txapoalli

Neurotypes

Mostly similar to Earth humans

  • There is a contingent of people who are not stereotypically autistic but they aren't normie-normies either. More common among scientists, mathematicians and artists. (needs more description)
  • Some people can only trust explicit rules.

Languages

Major languages

Roughly in order of number of speakers:

  1. Hetmic
  2. Sjowaazhéñ
  3. Skellan
  4. Häskä

Language families

The four major language families are:

Macrofamilies

  • Quame~Sjowaazhéñ ("Quihum languages")
  • Palkhan~Clofabosin~Varquun~Ldon ("ALPC" or "Alpaic")
  • Hlou-Shum~Tsimulh ("Western languages")

"Racial" characteristics

  • Etalocians have brown skin, black hair, epicanthal folds, blue eyes (sometimes), and straight hair.
  • Txapoallians: various

Programming languages

Programming languages usually have Skellan keywords. Some common languages are:

  • High-level language (Java + Python hybrid)
  • Functional language
  • C analogue

Surnames are bolded.
