Magellanican is written in a native alphabet which was derived from an earlier featural abugida. The native alphabet is written from left to right and from top to bottom across the page. The Latin alphabet was introduced in the 19th Century to take advantage of imported printing machinery thus creating an example of synchronic digraphia. The letter ⟨ŋ⟩ replaced the letter ⟨g⟩ for representing the velar nasal during the 1930s. The native script has seen a resurgence in use since the introduction of computer technology.
