Old Shalaian/Names

Shalian transcriptions of English names normally use the closest approximation to the Conservative RP pronunciation (e.g. káisi 'Casey'), but are sometimes somewhat etymologically informed (e.g. ʕídna 'Edna' retains the Hebrew ayin). This page describes native Shalian names which are sometimes used.

Structure

Most people who take Shalian names either use a new Shalian given name and keep their original surname, or use a full name consisting of four Shalian given names. There are no true family names in Shalian, since families as we know them no longer exist as social units in AETHER; however, one may choose to take their partner's surname if they have one.
