Etymology

From Ancient Greek θάλασσα, where Albanian tallaz, Coptic ⲑⲁⲗⲁⲥⲥⲁ (Thalassa), English thalassa-, Tsakonian θάσσα (Thassa) and Ottoman Turkish طلاس (talaz). The term is possibly Pre-Greek according to Beekes, reconstructed as *talakya.
