Skundavisk
Etymology
From Middle Skundavisk taken, from Old Skundavisk tākan, tēkan, from Halmisk ᛏᛖᚲᚨᚾ (tēkan), from Proto-Germanic *tēkaną. The verb originally belonged to the strong verb class 7 with a reduplicated past root *tetōk, but when the past root was reduced to *tōk, the verb was re-analyzed as a class 6 verb, as the verbs of this class normally follow an a-ō-a pattern. The same analogy then caused the shortening of the "ā" vowel of tākan during the late times of Old Skundavisk, which explains why the modern form is not *tåken as it normally would be. However, typical class 7 preterit forms like tek can still be found in some Eastern dialects.
