The Scottish language (Scottish: Scottis leid /skɔts ɫid/), is one of two official languages of the United Kingdom of Scotland and Ireland. Despite the name, it is spoken natively in both constituent countries. It is closely related to the English language spoken in the Kingdom of England. Although Scottish is a West Germanic language, it is in a sprachbund with the Western group of the North Germanic languages (comprising Icelandic, Faroese and Norwegian) and has evolved somewhat convergently with them.
