From Classical Phrygian ɛրɓɑv (eṣvaʿ), from Proto-Semitic *ʔiṣbaʕ-. Cognate with Hebrew אֶצְבַּע (ʾetsbáʿ), Aramaic אֶצְבְּעָא (ʾeṣbəʿā), Arabic إِصْبَع (ʾiṣbaʿ), among others.
