From Old Norse klokka, from Middle Low German klocke, from Medieval Latin clocca, probably of Celtic origin, from Proto-Celtic *klokkos (“bell”) (compare Eirathian clog), from Proto-Indo-Phrazean *klēg-, *klōg- (onomatopoeia).
