Nepokian

Etymology

From Middle Nepokian hupis, Old Nepokian supis, Proto-Nepokian subis, of uncertain, but most probably Indo-European origin. hupi belongs to the group of words for which there is no canonical PIE root available, as it seems that Nepokian is the only language having this word preserved. If one accepts the Nostratic hypothesis, the word ultimately may have its source in *šuby∇ 'spike, spear; to piece', compare Finno-Permic *šuye (< *šuwye) 'spear, spike'.
