Silōs

Etymology

Apparently from a hypothetical *silōsiva or an Old Silōs equivalent *sinōsiwa, *silōsiwa, from Proto-Coelo-Caric *sinɔ-s-ima. The medial *-s- is not morphologically expected, and is probably present epenthetically. In any case, the modern reduction of the word is enigmatic, not usual for a word so short, and the reduction method is also somewhat unusual, involving the hypothetical front reduct vowel. A possible explanation is even that this word arose only poetically and was transferred into normal word usage later.
