The Fifth Linguifex Relay was a conlang relay, a game of conlingual telephone, on Linguifex. The relay text was written in Tíogall by the relaymaster IlL. The text passed through eleven translations before being retranslated into Tíogall.

Texts

The original text was provided by IlL in his Tíogall language. The text is a love poem written by a (Tíogall equivalent of a) high school girl, perhaps for posting on a fanfiction website to represent her preferred shipping of the character Toiréir Gruaid with the male scientist character Stearras Nátsa. The poem uses the Burns stanza, which is not uncommon in Tíogall poetry.

Toħdádhéach - Warming Up to You

The relay ran from ___ until ___, and included 5 languages on the wiki (Tíogall, Windermere, Dyrel, I Kronurum, and Rejistanian).

Original Tíogall IPA English

Ós fusta liorna séiltigh snáibh
Forádhú ná dean bhfúinn’ lior sóibh,
Cuín éasraigh fuínn’ bhóg an ŋatéav,
Ímeann an cáidear –
Tsáŋód ri mbocaín rús dean thraebh
Ag romhar féadar.

Though I know you will wither as a corpse, [Or: Even when you have withered as a corpse]
I still gladly bask in your warmth, [Or: I would still bask in memories of your warmth]
For the same warmth nurtures curiosity,
The leaves of knowledge -
A garden that you have planted in this plot of land,
and forever will keep.

Even though I know that you will die in the end
I so enjoy being in your warmth
Because this warmth increases desire to know
There are leaves of knowledge
A garden that you placed on this earth
And that forever remains

The web of life is quickly torn into pieces,
When you the magnificent king
Come from the far-away sea.
You will make the skies' bidding,
You will make laws for us,
You are the saviour who will bring prosperity to the poor.

The great garden of life swiftly broke harmony
when you, O great king,
did not come to our distant sea.

Of course, then you made a wish to the Goddess,
and imposed [new] laws for us,
and so with prosperity you came as a savior to the poor.

O Monarch of Greatness, the great garden of life has broken the harmony
when you had not come to our faraway ocean.

As expected, the spirit has requested of the great deity
and the hand has placed the law upon us
therefore the savior has come with silver to the silverless.

Wašia wakayyunar intakahešnuktararampi, wammīn.

You are the supreme and most powerful chieftain,
You came to me, across my seas which are distant.

You are the one whom the spirit was looking for, and he made a request,
He made a request to the Great Spirit of the Heavens,
And then he gave me (this) **custom;

But take heed, the one who pays with silver shall not be protected from death.
All of this has happened because that tree had toppled everything around it there.

(**Note: there is no differentiation from "custom" and "law" in tribal Minhast society)

Lord, high and strong,
you who came to me in the far sea

I heed to your desire

you know a silver offering
against death won’t protect him.
That’s why yonder tree was thoroughly destroyed

Ach aru le tnáigh bhfá mar le taimhear gil bólaí máslaeŋa le sonaiŋŋt.

Tomhsásuħus, Lisnóiŋeadh na Saoibh

When a man gives praise and thanks, let him do so again and again!
Die he will one day,
but he must have faith that leaves can sprout from barren soil.
For the gods are ever actively present,
so long as it dawns and dusks, and so long as time passes.

Tomhsásuħus, Tamer of Dogs
