Deprecation and removal of the WikiForum & Chat

As these two features have seen less & less traffic in the recent years, we have taken the decision of retiring them fully. They will no longer be available. As part of this process, we are also merging the selected/featured tags for languages that the community & we particularly much like.   Χρυσοφύλαξ 13:37, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

Massive site upgrades

The Linguifex site has had its backend systems upgraded to run on a newer operating system, homogenized HTTP stack (backend & TLS frontend now use the same) and was updated to version 1.30. Linguifex will be updated to 1.32 as soon as possible   Χρυσοφύλαξ 15:22, 1 May 2019 (UTC)

Sound files

We now have sound file upload supported (.ogg format). Just add them to your article using [[File:Whatevername.ogg]]. Please don't upload gigantic files though. I'd rather not have to limit it unnecessarily.

IRC

We now have an IRC channel on the freenode network. IRC stands for Internet Relay Chat and allows instantaneous chatting (live!) with other people on Linguifex.

Think of the channel as a more relaxed, global talk page with live discourse.

You can now chat with us at Linguifex:Chat! :D

Old instructions

To join you must first have an IRC client. There are many desktop clients available, some of the most famous being: mIRC, ChatZilla, and XChat; there are also many web clients that run in your browser, freenode webchat, and KiwiIRC to name two.

1. Pick a nickname and connect with your client to the network chat.freenode.net using port 6667
2. If you did not chose a channel to join in the previous step, type /join #linguifex at the prompt (this will make you join our channel)
3. Chat to your hearts delight!

PS. We recommend that you register with the same username as on Linguifex to avoid confusion and any possible disputes. This can be done by typing /msg NickServ register password your@email.com. Do not reuse your wiki-password!

Happy Holidays!

The Swedes and Scandinavians of Linguifex and the administration wishes everyone a Merry Christmas now on Christmas Eve, and the rest of the world Happy Holidays until Christmas Day!   Waahlis 12:24, 24 December 2012 (CET)
