General information

Featured languages are honoured languages elected by the Linguifex Wiki community. At the end of every other month, a nomination process is started, where all users of the LinguifexWiki may nominate an exceptional or thorough conlang to be featured on the main page. Nominated languages should immediately translate and gloss the following sentence, which will be displayed on the voting page:

This language was once featured.
Thanks to its level of quality, plausibility and usage capabilities, it has been voted as featured.

When the nomination has ended the round of voting starts. All users have one vote, and one may only vote for a language, and not against it. All votes ought to be accompanied by a motivation, consisting of about one sentence. The authors of the nominated languages may not vote for their own conlang, but may choose to elect a competing language. The voting generally lasts for about one week, after which the victorious language is pronounced and displayed on the front page.

To win however, users and voters should observe the following criteria:

  • Intention - How well the language serves its intention, if any.
  • Naturalism - Depending on the intention, the language can be judged naturalistic or unnaturalistic.
  • Grammar - How are the various grammatical components cooperating? Is it complicated, too complicated or simple? Depends on its intention.
  • Usability - Is the language usable, functional or difficult to use? How are the texts glossed? How many texts/words are there?
  • Completeness - "Perfection is many small details done well" - Marco Pierre White

Winning languages and authors receive the honour of being mentioned at the front page, an immortalisation on the template of featured languages, and a badge to put on the user and article pages.

Rewards

Language

A template to put on the article page of a language which has been voted featured.

User

A template, a badge to put on the user page, should the user have created a featured language.

Procedure

The following is a pragmatic description of the nomination and voting processes of the featured language occurring on the forum page.

Nominating

Nominations for this month's contest are open!

Rules
  • A user may not nominate more than one conlang during the same nomination period.
  • The language must have the featured banner translated or be in a stage where it can be done by anyone, please display this in your conlang's article.
  • When you nominate a conlang, please state its purpose in the description, if known.
  • Winning conlangs may be re-nominated once 3 months have passed.

Please list the nominator, nominee language and author below, as well as a motivation below, in the following manner:

  • I, User:Nominator, nominate the Example language by User:Example, because of its outstanding features as an example language.

Voting

When voting for a featured language, you may only vote once, and only for, not against a language. It is appropriate to write a short motivational phrase when casting your vote. You may change or remove your vote before the voting ends.

Rules
  • Self voting does not count towards the total, and there are far too few of us to dilute the effect.
  • Unregistered users may not vote, but are still welcome to post comments and such.
  • Newly registered users may not vote for 3 weeks and must be working on a conlang of some sort, but are also still welcome to post comments.
  • Bots cannot vote at all.
Criteria

Try voting according to these criteria:

  • Intention - How well the language serves its intention, if any.
  • Naturalism - Depending on the intention, the language can be judged naturalistic or unnaturalistic.
  • Grammar - How are the various grammatical components cooperating? Is it complicated, too complicated or simple? Depends on its intention.
  • Usability - Is the language usable, functional or difficult to use? How are the texts glossed? How many texts/words are there?
  • Completeness - "Perfection is many small details done well" - Marco Pierre White - does the language seem complete to you? Is it lacking in any aspect?

Nominations

  • I, User:Nominator, nominate the Example language by User:Example, because of its outstanding features as an example language.
  • I, User:Second Nominator, nominate the Example2 language by User:Second Example, because of its nice contrast as an example language.
