Aspire to understanding. Without it we are strangers alone in an alien island.
Aspire to love untainted by possessiveness. Love confined is love lost.
Aspire to peace, which unites us. Abhor submissiveness, which divides us.
Aspire to courage; disdain foolhardiness. The one ennobles, the other belittles.
Aspire to the strengths of kindness, gentleness, generosity and gratitude.
Aspire to forgiveness because vengeance is your enemy.
Aspire to honest praise of man and deed. False praise demeans the praiser and the praised.
Aspire to skepticism, which tests and proves, unlike cynicism, which merely poisons.
Aspire to open-mindedness, but never fear decision.
Aspire to that elusive will-o-the-wisp, honesty, though deceit may sometimes seem the eternal way of the world.
Aspire to patriotism but do not confuse it with chauvinism.
Aspire to faith, without which there is no tomorrow.
Aspire to wisdom, which is the sum of all these, the philosopher's stone that transmutes the dross of life into the purest gold.
And aspire to happiness. Your surest path - make someone else happy.
