Early life and education

Scutzis was born in the city of Flian, Amphir to a family of Swutsim descent as the second of three children. Her father was the physicist and composer Afhnin Aśew, who was professor of physics in the University of Flian. Her mother, Chwafha Scutzis (adapted from Talman Swutsim Scütsis), was a classical ðavr player and music teacher. Her mother's brother, Mugifh Ytśude, was a jogóm player.

A child prodigy, Rochth was taught the ðavr and math from a young age. She once rediscovered just intonation cross-sets from looking at a multiplication table. She was allowed to skip boarding school and to enroll in the University of Flian in math at age 10 by taking an entrance exam. She was an exceptionally gifted student and graduated in mathematics and music with honors at age 16 (fT 2052).

After graduating, Scutzis studied composition and instrumentation with [Amphirese composer]. At this time she began corresponding with a number of Amphirese and Rhythoed composers, musicians and theorists to exchange ideas about music. Much of her theoretical work took place within these letters.

Later life

In fT 1176, an academic took notice of Scutzis's work and invited her to serve in the University of Chdam Sre [or maybe a conservatory?] as a professor of music. She accepted the offer and would continue to teach there for 14 years.

Among her students were several notable figures:

  • [Some Amphirese Guy]: Amphirese music theorist who developed Scutzis's ideas into regular temperament theory
  • Honan Đawhindøø: Fyxámian classical composer

In fT 1190, Scutzis retired from her academic post and secluded herself, intending to focus solely on composition. She lived in a house in Sŋoran until she died of a stroke in fT 1200.

Contributions to music theory

Scutzis's music theory was concerned with constructing various JI scales and approximating JI as well as possible while introducing flexibility. She often used larger cross sets, though she did not invent the concept.

Scutzis often worked in the ambient space of marvel temperament.

  • Many JI constant structure scales including scales with 16, 18, 23, and other numbers of notes
    • Constant structures generated by step sizes
  • Used 12edo in a musical composition, as a cross set of 3edo and 4edo
  • Marvel temperaments (225/224, 385/384, 676/675)

Compositions

  • Bwrjadreeg Cantatas
  • Many jogóm pieces
  • Many pieces of chamber music, including 10 string quartets
  • Choral pieces
  • Art songs
    • Some (many of them love songs) are duets, using the yeejeħrhoog technique
  • A few musical dramas
    • One Alice in Wonderland type thing
  • Pieces for the unaccompanied violin / ðavr
  • Etude in Twelve Equal Divisions

Bibliography

  • (a treatise of all her music theory ideas)
  • (collection of essays)
  • (an autobiography or a memoir)

Personal life and views

A lesbian, Scutzis never had children. She had a few female lovers throughout her life.

Family members:

  • Osri Scutzis (older sister) - music teacher
  • Ydzich Scutzis (younger sister)

Scutzis was a vegetarian. Politically she leaned libertarian - she thought government intervention did more harm than good. [This is whaat she would be if she were an Earth Millennial but is this appropriate for Romantic era politics?]
