Etymology
Uncertain. It likely originally meant "star" but came to gain widespread use as a non-pagan replacement to سوڤل (sawevel, "sun, Sufal") from the 10th century CE onwards. No inscription of a similar word exists during the Old Tefrian period. Some linguists take this as evidence for a modern formation, from an unknown component + ـلۆ (-lȳ, diminutive suffix). Other linguists propose that informal euphemistic use of this word may have extended to the Old Tefrian period and maybe further back by tribes that did not specifically worship Sufal, though they disagree on reconstructing the word itself. Some posit a relation to سوڤل (sawevel) from an Old Tefrian /*r(V)vālŭ/ or /*s(V)vālŭ/, from Proto-West Asisic *suwal + *-lū, though others assume the first component to be a loan from a word from a nearby language that has since been lost to time.
