Etymology
An older borrowing, ultimately from Ancient Greek ἀθλητής (athlētḗs). Due to its longer history in the language, speakers eventually started using the word as if one of native Coptic origin, by preserving its long vowel and utilizing a feminine form more akin to native adjectives.
