Skylandic

Etymology

From Proto-West Germanic *wesan, from Proto-Germanic *wesaną “to be”.

Pronunciation

  • IPA: /ɡə.zɑ̃/ [ɡɘ.zɑ̃ ~ ɡø.zɐ̃]

Pronoun

guesen (first-person present ime, present ist, imperfect étaient, present participle guésant, past participle beuné)

1. to be.
synonym: beunir
J'ime le Grause Sage !
— I am the Great Sage!
2. auxiliary for intransitively used or inherently intransitive verbs.
Il ist doyé.
— He died.

Conjugations

This is the only Skylandic verb that has a different present tense form for the first person singular pronoun. The quirky pronunciation of its general PRES form is likely an influence from French “est”.
