Skylandic

Etymology

From Proto-West Germanic *skulan, from Proto-Germanic *skulaną. The -ir infinitive ending is a French influence. Cognate with English shall, German sollen and Dutch zullen.

  • (chiefly Bernstein) IPA: [e.ku.jiɐ̯]

Suffix

écouillir (irregular, present écaille, imperfect écoudaient, present participle écouillant, past participle écouilli)

1. (modal auxiliary) shall, should. To be obliged to
2. (present subjunctive) conditional should, if
Écouillent dou ainen Heuff bruire, ainfach caurons mich.
Should you need help, just call me.
3. (ditransitive) to owe

Conjugations

Its irregularity comes from the « d » in its IMPF and IMPF.SJV forms which are, in turn, from the *d in the Proto-Germanic root’s past tense forms.
