Phonology

Consonants

Old Siészal had a smaller number of consonants than Modern Siészal. It also had no phonemic palatalization.

  • Nasal: /m n ŋ/
  • Voiceless stop: /p~ɸ t tʃ k/
  • Voiced stop: /b d dʒ g/
  • Voiceless fricative: /s ʃ x h/
  • Voiced fricative: /z ʒ/
  • Resonant: /w l j/

The Old Siészal consonant system is thought to derive from an earlier stage with only one stop series.
