In Linguifex, we use the term ''stem group'' for the set of a-posteriori conlangs (i.e. belonging to a real-life family) that are more closely related to a given living real-life language or clade than any living real-life language in its family. (cf. [[w:stem group|stem groups]] in paleontology)
