Etymology
From Old Grekelin δαύτος/η/ο, with the grammatical genders merged into one (davti is still used for -i ending nouns), from Medieval Greek ἐδαῦτος/η/ο, colluquial version of αυτός/η/ο. Cognate with Greek αυτός, Mariupol Greek афтос.
