Structure
Tíogall names normally consist minimally of name + mother's surname + surname; the surname is inherited from the father. If one's father is not known at the time of name-giving, his mother's surname becomes his surname and the slot for the mother's surname is left blank. One or more middle names or a patronymic may also be used between the given name and the mother's surname.
Notwithstanding the above, a person is usually known by his given name and surname.
All married persons retain their original surnames.
