After the rise of Ngronaism, some Ngronaist sects such as Hyðahism required vegetarianism (thus fish glue was not allowed), thus effectively banning fiddles. This severely limited the repertoire of free-pitch instruments, thus motivating tempered scales for use with fixed-pitch instruments.
