Etymology

From earlier hœsia, from Proto-Slavic *xyža, from Proto-Germanic *hūsą. The change > s occurred likely due to the influence of German Haus. Compare Slovene hiša, Serbo-Croatian hiža. Cognate with English house, Dutch huis.
