Niemish

Pronunciation

  • IPA: /ˈnaːgʊl/

Etymology

From Proto-Germanic *naglaz. The lack of extended Thurneysen's law in this word may be due to influence of cognate words with the same meaning in other Indo-European languages, e.g. *nȍgъtь, Lithuanian nãgas. Doublet of náchol ("nail, key"), in which extended Thurneysen's law was active.
