Some con-accents of English.

Californian RP

RhoTA (Rhotic Transatlantic)

VOWELS: KIT, DRESS as in GenAm/Modern RP. TRAP, BATH as in GenAm, but no tensing or raising before nasals. PALM as in GenAm. FOOT as in GenAm but slightly fronted. STRUT, LOT, CLOTH as in modern RP. THOUGHT as in Modern RP. FLEECE, FACE, GOOSE, CHOICE as in Modern RP. PRICE as in GenAm, with no Canadian raising. MOUTH as GenAm. GOAT as in RP. Do not front the offglide. NEAR, NORTH, FORCE, POOR, CURE as in Philadelphia. SQUARE, NURSE, START as in GenAm. LETTER, COMMA, HAPPY as in GenAm.

MERGERS: orange as in RP. No Mary-merry-marry merger. No mirror-nearer merger. No hurry-furry merger. No cot-caught merger. Horse-hoarse merger. All 3 of fall, full, fool are distinct. Foal is pronounced as in Modern RP. LOT-CLOTH merger. wine-whine distinction optional.

OTHER NOTES: Loanwords with /a/ follow American English. Hence pasta = /pɑ:stə/, banana = /bənænə/, etc. /l/ is always dark but never vocalized. Intervocalic /t/ may be pronounced [t] or be glottalized [ʔ]. Do not use glottal stops unless GenAm would do so. Tense and lax vowels are distinguished by length, as in RP. Glottal reinforcement optional. water is pronounced /wɔ:tər/.
