Etymology

From earlier ɯɛï (meï) by analogy with other prefixed prepositions, from Classical Phrygian ɯɛү (men), from Proto-Semitic *min(V)-. Cognate with Hebrew מִ־ (mi-), Aramaic מִן (min), Arabic مِن (min), among others.
