Etymology

From Ancient Greek καί (kai), from Proto-Greek *kati, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱm̥t-, derived from *ḱóm. Doublet of kata. Cognate with Latin contra and cum, Russian, Serbo-Croatian and Bulgarian с, Belarusian, Ruthenian and Ukrainian з, Breton ken-, German hinter.
