PTal *ph > f rather than 0 as in all the other Talmic branches (because Maltese/Old English)

new ē from compensatory lengthening/new short versions of long vowels from umlaut/coloring/...

Nurian place names with Dvo- (from older Gwnax):

  • Dvopprit
  • Dvonrūk
  • Dvotslīng
  • Dvokhnēaks

Phonology

Modern Nurian has a typologically unusual distinction between dental and alveolar stops and between many types of fricatives:

  • t d = alveolar stops
  • th = alveolar spirants (slit fricatives, often pronounced as Welsh ll)
  • ŧ đ = dental stops
  • ŧh = dental spirants
  • s z = dental/alveolar sibilants
  • ṡ ż = postalvelar sibilants

Vowels: <a e i/y o u æ ie ea eo> /A e i o u æ y ea ø/ all with short and long counterparts

Consonants: <p ŧ t c ċ ķ k q b đ d dz ġ ģ g m n ņ ng hw f ŧh th s ṡ x w v z ż għ ħ ł l ļ ŗ r> /p t(dental) t ts tS c k ʡ b d(dental) d dz dZ J g m n ñ ŋ hw f θ θ(ret) s S x w v z Z ʕ ħ h l(dental, velarized) l λ r ʀ/
