Old Shalaian/Names

Shalian transcriptions of English names normally use the closest approximation to the Conservative RP pronunciation (e.g. káisi 'Casey'), but are sometimes somewhat etymologically informed (e.g. ʕídna 'Edna' retains the Hebrew ayin). This page describes native Shalian names which are sometimes used.

Structure

Most people who take Shalian names either use a new Shalian given name and keep their original surname, or use a full name consisting of four Shalian names. There are no true family names in Shalian as used in AETHER, since families as we know them no longer exist as social units; however, one may choose to take a partner's surname if they have one. Some people may use the invented Shalian family names, based on the fictional (in AETHER) background for Shalian.
