Etymology

From Old Grekelin ναίκα (With the first syllable being dropped in rapid speech), from Byzantine Greek γυναίκα (gunaíka), from Ancient Greek γυνή, γυναῖκα (gunḗ, gunaîka), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷḗn (“woman”). Cognate with Tsakonian γουναίκα (gounaíka) and Cappadocian Greek ναίκα (naíka).
