From Classical Phrygian rɛүɑ (tena), from the accusative form of Proto-Semitic *ṯin-. Cognate with Hebrew שְׁנַיִם (shnáyim), Aramaic תְּרֵין (trēn), Arabic اِثْنَان (iṯnān), among others.
