From Middle Skundavisk ende, from Old Skundavisk endia, aendia, from Halmisk ᚨᚾᛞᛃᚨ (andja), ᚨᚾᛞᛃᚨᛉ (andjaŕ), from Proto-Germanic *andijaz.

Usage notes

Originally a class 1 noun with a plural in -s, it's more and more often treated as a class 4 noun with a plural in -n due to analogy with other masculine nouns ending in -e.
