Middle Annerish

Etymology

From Old Annerish dúachtır, a conflation of Proto-Germanic *duhtēr ("daughter") and *þeuhtēr ("descendant").

Pronunciation

(Annerish) IPA: /ˈdˠutʲr̩ʲ/ [ˈd̥ɯ̯ɪˑʰt͡ʃɪ̆ɹ]

  • broad ending: /ˈdˠutˠr̩ˠ/ [ˈd̥uˑʰtəɾ]

Noun

duıttr (runic:ᚿᚢᛁᛐᛧ)

  1. (in trad. law) An heiress, inheritor.
  2. (more br.ly) A successor.

Usage notes

Annerish society was matrilineal and matrifocal, hence there is no term for a male heir.

Inflection

Irregular according to the Bésgnae Béırle;
Bernthaler groups this along with several other such nouns into a declension she descibes as "Überrestliche rhotische Deklination."
