From Middle Skundavisk lenten, lentin, from Old Skundavisk lentina, lengtina, from Halmisk ᛚᚨᚾᚷᛏᛁᚾᚨ (langtīna), ᛚᚨᚾᚷᛏᛁᚾᚨᛉ (langtīnaŕ), from Proto-Germanic *langatīnaz, from *langaz (long) + *tīnaz (day).
