As mentioned above, the stem-final consonants of some verbs metathesize upon the addition of an echo vowel between them. In most cases, the metathesized form is actually older than the base form. For example, the verb ''kusli'' "to be fat" originally had the stem ''*kuls'', which was metathesized for ease of pronunciation whenever the final consonants came into contact.
The general order for consonants in a cluster is as below (note that clusters can only occur word-internally and no more than two consonants can cluster at a time):
:non-guttural fricative - liquid - stop - (liquid) - guttural fricative
:(liquids can occur either before or after non-coronal stops)
This is not 100% accurate especially because of loanwords (e.g. ''fahmi'' "to understand"), but it applies to most native words.
