Vietnamese in the Irta timeline is pretty much the same as in our timeline but it uses a very deep, yet unambiguously readable, orthography reflecting Proto-Vietic and Middle Chinese etyma. For example:
- về 'to return; about' is spelled wêr, reflecting Proto-Vietic *we:r. Here the rime êr is read as /e/, and the lack of a tone letter and the resonant final, and the low tone class initial w- (read as the consonant /v/) allows one to deduce the huyền tone.
- Its derivative quê 'countryside; birthplace' (from PV *k-we:r) is spelled kwêr. Here the kw- initial uses tones of the high tone class, so it can be read as having the ngang tone.
