Signs of human habitation in Minhay date to 2000 BC in the form of middens found on the western coast. Artifacts excavated from these sites triggered heated debate as to who the first settlers of Minhay were, and where and how they arrived. Artifacts such as pottery, tools, weapons, and jewelry bore little if any similarity to those found in Northeast Asia. The artifacts were clearly much more advanced and refined than the Paleosiberian cultures.
