From East Kyrdan *nȳ (“star”), from Early Proto-Kyrdan *niwə (“star”). Doublet of newa. Possibly related to Aiwanic nius “main sequence star”. Cognate with Kērsalur newa, Cirdamur ni, Old Sērsal nix, Old Ķyrdum niu.
